Foundation passes $1 million milestone

The Airdrie and District Community Foundation’s permanent fund has now passed the $1 million mark. Starting with just $11,000 less than 10 years ago, the fund was valued at $1,022,563.36 on August 31st.

For the community, it means the Foundation can provide more or larger grants to local charities. The first grants were awarded in 2017, for $5,500 and this year they reached $30,000.

Chair Dale Rathgeber said, “It is a real credit to the people of Airdrie and area that the permanent fund has grown so much. Thanks to them, we have been, and continue to be, one of the fastest growing community foundations in the country.”

Vice Chair Kelly Boudreau added, “The need never stops, so we’re not stopping either. The charities we support add immeasurably to the strength and character of Airdrie and district. Their contributions are especially important in taking care of the vulnerable. Everyone can contribute, even a few dollars can make a difference. And donors also benefit by receiving charitable tax receipts that reduce their income tax.”

Community foundations across Canada take in donations, which are put into a permanent fund. The income and interest from the fund is then awarded as grants to local registered charities. For donors, it provides a way to support the community forever.
