Veteran Treasurer Steps Down
Long-time treasurer and director Brenda Lewis has stepped down from her roles at the Airdrie & District Community Foundation. Fellow directors said they were sorry to see her leave, and noted she has been a key member of the team for many years.
Chair Dale Rathgeber said, “Brenda you were the hardest working board member we had as treasurer, and apart from that you were the first to volunteer for every event that we had. I thank you for your outstanding service and dedication.”
“Brenda has been a reliable and steady force in steering the financial ship of the Foundation through the growth we have created in the last decade”, said Vice-Chair Kelly Boudreau. She added, “Brenda was key in helping distribute Covid resiliency funds from the government of Canada ($488,480) to local charities. In addition she was instrumental in helping coordinate many events for the Foundation, and for all of that we are truly grateful for her contributions.”
Fellow long-time director Milt Brandson added, “Thank you Brenda for your service to the foundation. You have been a long time member and will be missed for your enthusiasm and expertise. All the best!”
Another director, Jeff Coffin, said, “Thank you to Brenda for her selfless commitment to our community and tremendous leadership in helping to navigate and guide the Foundation to be positioned for continuous growth and stability as we carry forward.”
Bob Abbott said, “It was always great fun to work with Brenda at events such as AirdrieFest. Her face showed her passion for helping others as she advocated for the Foundation and for making Airdrie a stronger and more resilient community.”
Ron Simon served along with her on the Board for many years, and said, “It has been a pleasure working with Brenda, she has been professional with her accounting role and she offered valuable input with the Director Team. Sorry to see her leave.”
In response, Brenda said “I am so grateful and in awe of such kind words. My time with the Foundation has been very rewarding and quite a personal growth experience. Each and every board member, past and present, brought a wealth of knowledge and were always eager to share and assist. All are very passionate about the Foundation, the City of Airdrie, and helping the community now and for many years to come. Many wonderful memories have been made and I look forward to watching the Foundation’s continued growth and success. Thank you to all.”
Val Simpson succeeded Brenda as Treasurer earlier in 2025.
